COPD Awareness Month highlights the importance of early diagnosis for better lung health

Every November, COPD Awareness Month brings attention to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a progressive lung disease affecting millions of people worldwide. This year, World COPD Day, observed on November 18, highlights the theme “Early Diagnosis and Management for a Better Life,” a message that closely aligns with ndd’s mission to advance early diagnosis for better lung health.
At ndd, we believe early diagnosis can change lives. It’s more than a message we support. It’s the mission that drives everything we do.
Why early diagnosis matters #
COPD remains a significant global health challenge. According to the World Health Organization, COPD was the third leading cause of death worldwide in 2023, responsible for approximately 3.4 million deaths.
Despite its prevalence, COPD often goes undiagnosed or is diagnosed only after significant lung damage has occurred. Symptoms such as persistent coughing, shortness of breath, and fatigue can develop gradually and may be mistaken for normal aging or other conditions.
That’s why early diagnosis is so important.
When COPD is identified earlier, patients have an opportunity to begin appropriate treatment, manage symptoms, reduce the risk of exacerbations, and take steps to protect their lung health. Spirometry plays a critical role in confirming a COPD diagnosis by providing objective measurements of lung function.
The earlier we understand what’s happening in the lungs, the sooner we can take action.
Our Mission: Early Diagnosis for Better Lung Health #
For 30 years, ndd Medical Technologies has been dedicated to advancing lung health through early, accurate diagnosis. Our vision is a world where early detection of lung disease is the standard of care and every patient has the opportunity for a better quality of life.
Our EasyOne spirometry and pulmonary function testing solutions, powered by TrueFlow ultrasoundtechnology, help make reliable lung function testing more accessible to healthcare professionals across a variety of care settings.
But our mission goes beyond the technology itself.
It’s about the people behind every test. The patients searching for answers, the families hoping for more time together, and the healthcare professionals working to deliver better care.
Our commitment also extends to clinical research. ndd technology has supported landmark COPD research initiatives, including COPDGene, BOLD, and PLATINO, helping researchers collect reliable lung function data and advance our understanding of respiratory disease.
These technologies and partnerships are how we work toward our mission. Improving patients’ lives is why we do it.
Advancing lung health, one test at a time #
This COPD Awareness Month and World COPD Day, we join the global respiratory community in emphasizing the importance of awareness, timely diagnosis, and appropriate disease management.
Because behind every diagnosis is a person who deserves answers, access to care, and the opportunity for a healthier future.
At ndd, we’ll continue working toward a world where lung disease is detected earlier, clinicians have the tools they need, and more patients have the chance to breathe easier and live better.
