ANDOVER, MA — Pulmonary function testing is a vital component to determining the onset of lung disease. ndd Medical Technologies’ new spirometer, the EasyOne Air has been approved by NIOSH for use in the Coal Worker’s Health Surveillance Program (CWHSP) for the completion of periodic lung function testing for underground and surface coal miners. The EasyOne Air is the third ndd product approved for use in the CWHSP.
The EasyOne Air is a flexible, accurate and proven spirometry solution. Utilizing TrueFlow™ technology, this portable and PC spirometer delivers reliable results every time. With a vivid color touch screen for fast entry of patient data, easy navigation and real time results this product is an exceptional choice to use onsite or in clinical environments.
In a recent research letter published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, NIOSH confirmed 416 cases of progressive massive fibrosis or complicated black lung from 2013 to 2017, which indicates a significant growth of cases. NIOSH regulations require periodic spirometry screenings for both underground and surface coal miners. The pulmonary function testing must be done in NIOSH-approved facilities and administered by testers who have successfully completed the organization’s Spirometry Training Course.
The Coal Worker’s Health Surveillance Program focuses on employees exposed to coal and silica dust that could cause black lung disease, silicosis or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). NIOSH Spirometry Course Director Rebecca Moreland, Ph.D., MPH, uses the EasyOne Air and Easy on-PC for training occupational health nurses and professionals performing spirometry in the field and workplace.
“The EasyOne PFT devices are very portable and are easy to take in to the field or plant,” stated Dr. Moreland. “The EasyOne ultrasound technology is not only accurate but provides on-the-spot predictive values and easy identification of repeatable lung function results. Its concise printouts and graphic displays highlight lung function parameters and results, including preliminary interpretation. And the ndd technology saves the information directly from the spirogram into a database or Electronic Health Record (EHR).”
