Global burden of COPD

Prevalence of COPD

In a study seeking to better understand the global burden of COPD, as well as the prevalence of people who likely have COPD but have yet to receive a confirmed diagnosis1, Ho et al. found that potentially up to 95% of people with COPD are living without a diagnosis,1 likely unable to receive the adequate care they deserve. Ho et al. emphasized that two major drivers for why so many people are undiagnosed is because of a lack of access to spirometry, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), and due to conflicting definitions of diagnosis used.1 Improved education of healthcare professionals on COPD and guidance in the field would also drive improvements for the patient community.

Further, many patients who have been diagnosed with COPD received a late diagnosis, which has a profound effect on not only the patient but on the healthcare system. There is not a clear definition of “early” or “late” diagnoses, but using specific criteria outlined in one study, patients who receive an early diagnosis are likely to remain stable longer and be hospitalized less frequently.2

Increased spirometry and pulmonary function test utilization, especially in low- and middle-income countries, would improve diagnostic rates of COPD, leading to fewer late diagnoses, and improved outcomes for the patient community and a lower burden on the healthcare systems around the world. Though historically access to spirometry and PFT devices was limited by device expense or size, fortunately, there are accessible, accurate, reliable, and simple devices available today to ensure every person with COPD can receive the diagnosis and care they deserve.

The Solution: EasyOne pulmonary function and spirometry devices

ndd has developed state-of-the-art, point of care spirometry and PFT devices: EasyOne Pro/Pro LAB, EasyOne Air and Easy on-PC. EasyOne devices, utilize patented TrueFlow ultrasoundtechnology, to help clinicians diagnose and treat lung disease. We offer consistent and user-friendly lung function testing equipment.

Accessibility

Point of care, small and portable, and requiring little maintenance, EasyOne devices allow clinicians to focus on the patient instead of worrying about a cumbersome, inaccessible spirometry or PFT device. If clinicians choose, they can test patients at their bedside, reducing the burden on patients who may have more advanced lung disease. Further, EasyOne devices leverage EasyOne Connect, our integrated software platform, to directly and seamlessly integrate into your clinic’s existing electronic medical or health record system.

Accuracy and reliability

All EasyOne devices have our ground-breaking TrueFlow and TrueCheck technology. Empirically shown to provide accurate readings each and every time, TrueFlow gives clinicians confidence in the PFT results and reduces the burden of patients from being affected by malfunctioning devices or inaccurate results. With TrueCheck technology, there’s also no calibration needed, further supporting clinical confidence. Clinical decisions are easier and more straight-forward when immediate, accurate readings are available.

Simplicity

EasyOne devices aren’t just accessible, accurate, and reliable; they’re also simple, robust, and easy to use. They integrate well into existing workflows and have an easy learning curve, reducing the burden on care teams looking to implement a new device into their clinic. Our devices have a simple user interface, but are powerful and robust enough for use in multiple environments. Using the American Thoracic Society’s interpretation tree, clinical decision-making becomes quicker and easier.
